Public safety professionals receive a firsthand look at the texting capabilities of the 911-Inc QuickResponse™ software and the VisionAIR VisionCAD™ system

Denver, CO and Castle Hayne, NC; August 6, 2010 – 911-Inc., a national emergency call handling software developer, and VisionAIR®, provider of the integrated Public Safety Suite® of software solutions, announced today it successfully received more than 250 text messages this week with the 911-Inc. QuickResponse™ call handling software and the VisionAIR VisionCAD™ system at the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) conference in Houston.

Show attendees sent live emergency text messages from their cell phones at the APCO Conference in Houston, TX. The messages traveled to a datacenter in Denver, CO and then to a remote demonstration Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) position on the APCO show room floor seconds later. Attendees immediately viewed their text messages in the QuickResponse software from 911-Inc. Text messages were then sent back to the attendees from the demonstration PSAP and were received on their cell phones.

To enhance the demonstration even further, the text messages automatically created a new call in the VisionCAD computer-aided dispatch system from VisionAIR. The cell phone number was automatically pre-populated in the new call window and a “telecommunicator” could continue entering call data from there.

“This technology is truly amazing; it is a breakthrough to be able to demonstrate today how this capability will be available in the future,” said Susan Pettingill, 911 Wireless/MSAG Coordinator for the Orange County Public Safety Communications (FL). “This is one step closer to making Next Generation 9-1-1 a reality in our industry, which will be a great benefit for the public.”

“Our goal is to be ahead of the curve with Next Generation public safety technology. We have achieved that with our QuickResponse software, which is ready for emergency text messaging today,” says Greg Furman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for 911-Inc.

Scott MacDonald, Product Vice President for VisionAIR, said “As we approach the reality of next generation 911, it is critically important that new methods of communicating with the public are incorporated into the emergency operator’s workflow. By incorporating SMS and MMS messages into the call and incident process, users of VisionCAD will be able to efficiently dispatch responders and arm them with all of the information sent in from citizens.”

QuickResponse™ call handling software is prepared to take emergency text messages today

Denver, CO; June 17, 2010 – 911-Inc. (http://www.911-inc.com), a national emergency call handling software developer, announced today it successfully sent emergency text messages at the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) conference in Indianapolis to a demonstration Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Denver using the company’s QuickResponse™ call handling software viewed on the NENA trade show floor.

During the conference, both 911-Inc. staff and several show attendees sent emergency text messages, from their cell phones, to an emergency number. This text message was then automatically routed to a test PSAP located in Denver, Colorado, and instantly appeared live on the QuickReponse™ client software on the show floor in Indianapolis. The delivery of the text message from Denver to Indianapolis was accomplished using the tradeshow internet access as the backbone and was secured with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection.

The 911-Inc. staff was able to open the message, see the phone number of where the text message originated and the content of the message. A text response was then sent back to the “caller” and that message immediately appeared on the cell phone used to make the emergency text. One show attendee was so impressed and skeptical, that he called the emergency number being used to verify functionality. His call was answered and he talked live to the call taker operating the position on the tradeshow floor.

“911-Inc. is ahead of the curve in being able to accept text messages through our QuickResponse™ client software. We have the solution for those PSAPs ready and wanting to enable texting capabilities,” said Greg Furman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for 911-Inc.

911-Inc. recently completed the NENA 9-1-1 i3 interoperability tests where their QuickResponse™ software was set up as a receiving PSAP and accepted RFAI and legacy calls successfully. The tests were conducted at the second National NENA Industry Collaboration Event (ICE) held recently in Irving, TX.

“Both of these projects showcase our advanced technology and our commitment to Next Generation 9-1-1,” said Allen Amis, President of 911-Inc.“

Denver, CO; March 2, 2010 – 911-Inc., a national emergency dispatch center software developer, announced their next generation software, QuickResponse™, has been demonstrated with the Intrado Intelligent Emergency Network, leveraging the Request For Assistance Interface (RFAI) standard that is being developed by the Emergency Services Interconnection Forum (ESIF) of the Association of Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS). This technology will allow emergency dispatch centers to receive 911 calls using the SIP protocol over the Internet, replacing the CAMA phone trunks used today.

“The ability to receive emergency calls over IP is one of the first steps in migrating to a next generation solution,” said Allen Amis, 911-Inc. CEO. “911-Inc. is proud to be at the forefront of testing these new technologies with vendors, proving our commitment to be ready for next generation 9-1-1 data and networks when they are available in any market.”

Today public safety answering points (PSAPs) receive calls through an analog or digital phone line and retrieve ALI location information through a separate modem. In the future, when all voice and data comes to the dispatch center over highly secure IP networks, the 9-1-1 call taker will have instant access to expanded data and location information.

“This is just one of the many benefits of Next Generation call handling,” added Greg Furman, 911-Inc. Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Answering the call and instantly receiving critical location information can save precious time, which can provide better protection of first responders and citizens.”

Denver, CO; November 3, 2009 – The new University Police emergency dispatch center at California State University, Fullerton, is now receiving local area 911 calls using the QuickLink call processing solution from 911-Inc. (www.911-inc.com) The installation of the communications platform allows University Police to provide superior call taking and dispatch services to the students of CSU Fullerton and surrounding areas.

“When we were planning our state-of-the-art dispatch center, we needed to purchase a lot of equipment with our limited state allotment. 911-Inc had all the features and functionality that we needed, same as Plant or Positron, but for a much better price,” said Brian Barnes, CSU Fullerton Police Department Communications Project Coordinator. “Plus their customer service was much better, not only during the bidding process but afterwards as well. It couldn’t have gone any smoother.”

University Police moved into their new 10,470-square-foot, state-of-the-art building in August. The new facility has twice the space of the old building which was a trailer placed on campus in 1960.

“We’re excited and proud to be working in partnership with the CSU Fullerton University Police department,” said Allen Amis, CEO of 911-Inc. “College and university campuses must have the most current technology and system features to properly support the campus first responders and ensure student safety.”

Avaya, 911- Inc., Synergem and GeoComm collaborate to deliver fully-integrated i3 solution

Denver, CO; October 7, 2009 – A live call has been dynamically routed between two different public-safety answering points (PSAPs) through remote data centers using geographic information systems and next generation technology. NextGen Partners, consisting of Avaya, 911- Inc., Synergem and GeoComm, demonstrated this next generation technology for the first time at the recent North Carolina APCO/NENA conference.

A 911 call was placed from a mobile device in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. This call was directed to a Fort Worth, Texas emergency services routing proxy (ESRP) where it was converted to SIP (session initiation protocol) format. The ESRP in Fort Worth queried a hosted geospatial routing server in Minneapolis to determine which PSAP to route the call to based on the location of the caller. With this information the ESRP then routed the call between two virtual PSAPs hosted at a facility in Denver, Colorado, with the final voice and data of the 911 call presented at remote call-taker workstations in Sunset Beach. Additional demonstrations will be featured at the Virginia APCO/NENA conference October 27-30.

This next generation 9-1-1 solution features:

Logic based call routing that can dynamically route calls based on caller characteristics including location and PSAP policy.

Ad hoc mobile command posts can be set up on the fly.

Call-taker positions created anywhere in seconds with only a computer and broadband access.

A tier IV data center with DOD level 4/5 security for maximum fault tolerance and security.

Commercially available capabilities brought to the 9-1-1 sector from the leader in unified communications

NextGen Partners combines the strengths of four companies: Avaya, 911-Inc., Synergem and GeoComm. The team mission is to develop the most advanced, feature-rich NG9-1-1 solutions for PSAPs across the county.

“The network will truly be intelligent,” said Allen Amis, President and CEO of 911-Inc. “If a major accident suddenly overwhelmed the PSAP with calls, the network can identify that these calls are related and route them to designated positions, or an alternative PSAP, thus allowing unrelated emergency calls to still get through.”

“One important aspect of this combined GIS and communications technology is that we can change PSAP call routing on the fly,” said Thomas Grones, President and CEO of GeoComm. “For instance, if a football game suddenly increases the population in an area by 100,000 people, we will be able to circle the stadium on the mapping system and send all 9-1-1 calls to a specific local PSAP.”

“By exploiting the core competencies of each of our NextGen Partners,” said Myron Herron, President and COO of Synergem, “we are able to introduce enhanced operational capabilities that up to now have only been available commercially in huge call centers outside of public safety.”

Students at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Wheaton campus are studying the latest technologies in commercial phone systems thanks to a collaboration between Colorado-based 911-Inc. and IIT. The company donated a Mediant 1000 Gateway and SIP phones to the University’s nationally known VoIP lab, and sponsored an internship program at the university. This effort was highlighted by a conference held at IIT’s Wheaton campus. Chuck Hunnicutt, a Bell Labs pioneer in Digital Switching systems, presented at IIT’s VOIP symposium on behalf of 911-Inc.

According to Sudhir Bijanki, Director of Research and Development for 911-Inc., the partnership got started at an IEEE meeting, where he met IIT’s Professor Carol Davis. “When she mentioned that some very talented students were looking for work, we were interested right away,” explained Bijanki. He approached 911-Inc.’s CEO, Allen Amis, about funding an internship program, and Amis decided to donate the phone equipment as well. Amis said the choice was simple, because “Supporting higher education is an important investment in the future of public safety.”

One of the first breakthroughs came when students used the new equipment to successfully demonstrate video over SIP technology. Already the technology of choice for voice calls, SIP is a highly scalable protocol that makes it much easier to send all types of multimedia over a standard IP network. 911-Inc. is using SIP to implement the NENA i3 specification in their products. The company plans to continue working with IIT, including presenting at their next VOIP conference.
